SLJ- I te timatanga, in the beginning. Activity 1

MAUI.

In this story he fished up Aotearoa with a hook that is a jawbone and the blood from his nose.
His brothers didn't let him go fishing so he hid in the waka.
People also call Aotearoa Te Ika a Maui. The fish that Maui caught.

There are heaps of stories about Maui. My favourite story is the one where he slows down the sun to make the days longer.

I know a song about Maui. Maybe we can learn it at school.

  1. Talofa Ngarui,

Wow, I love that you’ve posted factual events from the story. I can tell you value your learning a lot by paying attention to detail. I love the picture you’ve included, it is clearly inspired by the story, I would love to know who illustrated that artwork.. Do you know who the artist is?

Thank you for sharing the story of how Māui slowed the sun, that is one of my favourites, Māui is absolute boss in that one! Perhaps next time you could include the song about Māui, I’m always excited about learning new waiata.

Have you heard the story of how Māui brought fire to the world? If you haven’t follow the link below to read it. Let me know whether you like the story or not!
